Let’s Cut The Bullshit

It’s been four weeks since my last post.

I’ve been really busy with my 4-week coaching program followed by interviewing candidates for my “high level” coaching thereafter.

Interviewing has been an incredible education and has enabled me to learn so much about EXACTLY who a typical “wannabe Internet Marketer” is.

And just like the weather forecast here in South Wales…

The outlook is not so great.

Here’s why:

Almost every applicant described themselves as an “action taker” or somebody willing to do “whatever it takes” to succeed…

BULL SHIT!

Some were true to their word and I look forward to helping them get to where they want to be, but others, let’s call them the “bull shit contingent”, ran a mile when offered a REAL life-changing opportunity.

Out came all manner of excuses about why they couldn’t take their place on a coaching program THEY applied to join in the first place!

Or even worse…

Some agreed to join only for a coincidental “disaster” to strike merely hours after they committed themselves to changing theirs and their family’s lives for the better.

A pet dog’s emergency leg transplant or some other bull shit now meant they could no longer be coached.

The sad truth is there is nothing wrong with Fido’s leg…

And it’s not even about the cost of investment either.

The real problem?

A good percentage of “wannabe” marketers or those who consider themselves marketers struggling with their marketing simply do not want to succeed…

The thought terrifies them.

These people are happier in the “cosier” areas of the Internet Marketing industry:

Writing a load of bull shit about how they “want” to succeed on a non-profitable blog day after day…

Or “networking” in Facebook groups which amounts to no more than bull shitting about future success with other bull shitters.

It’s where those on the fringes of the industry feel “safe”.

Because they never have to step out of their comfort zone and do any real marketing!

Check that…

They never have to do ANYTHING at all!

Unfortunately, their demise is no longer my business the moment we part ways…

And it pains me to say that because as somebody who has struggled myself to succeed online over the years, I want to pluck as many individuals as I possibly can from marketing obscurity and help them.

If that’s where you’re stuck right now I can only help you  if you TRULY want to be helped.

So, if you’ve just got started online and don’t have a clue where to begin…

Or, if you’re stuck on the fringes and want to finally ACHIEVE your goals…

Well David, personally I thought the email was, rubbish. And promoting debt to do a course yours or anyone’s is irresponsible to say the least! You do not know peoples personal responsibilities or financial status.

      Hi Sean,

Thanks for your honest opinion – it (never) gets tiresome being told your emails are awesome all the time but it’s nice to get an alternative view!

I haven’t promoted getting into debt and nor will I. As you rightly say, I do not know people’s responsibilities or financial status but arguably, neither are any of my business.

If I offer a product, coaching or whatever and you WANT it… how you obtain that money to afford it is down to you.

For example, I “bought” a 55 inch LED television a couple of months back… on credit. Beyond doing a simple credit check to make sure I wasn’t a total liability, the store couldn’t care less HOW I pay for that unit in 9 months time… just as long as I DO pay for it. If I can’t pay, I get hammered with interest but it’s MY PROBLEM – it’s not the stores responsibility.

I have also invested in mentoring which at the time I could not strictly “afford” but for me, it was about weighing up the pros and cons. Sure, there was the possibility I’d “lose” a low four-figure sum but on the other hand, I wasn’t “making” the kind of money I wanted to be either. Not advice on what you should do, just what I did and what paid off for me.

Good answer David. I’ll see you on the next webinar.

Emotionally driven & interesting observations which I suspect were difficult for you to share publicly.

I’ve long thought the #1 reason for online marketing failure was twofold, lack of clearly defined goals & lack of self-belief.

Anyhow, good post, good insights and good for you.
    Stay casual,
    Mr Ed

      Hi Edward,

Yep, I wrestled with this post a little and even toned it down somewhat.

You are correct, a lack of goals and lack of self-belief hold people back but so does fear. The fear of failure is often mooted as a reason (or excuse) for not doing something but I believe the fear of success is a much bigger contributor.

“Failure” won’t change a lot of peoples lives that differently… for example, if I “fail” at IM it just means I have to get a job. However, success… and big success at that… means your life will change massively: larger house, cars, holidays, “fame” and being perceived differently by your friends and family.

Many people are just not ready for that and subconsciously hold themselves back. Arguably I have done that myself over the years.

I absolutely adore today’s post. Welcome back! to blogging eh? As a born and bread Noo Yawlker US, Your brutally honest assessment is virtually foreign to me and a refreshing GOD send. BTW I know you are not writing about me, ear is looking forward and onward to never looking back. There are never no excuses in the IM realm. A community or territory over which a sovereign rules; a kingdom.

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for your comment and I am looking forward to working with you! I now have a “no excuses” from you in writing… it will be used as evidence against you if required!

    I agree with you, David.
    I one of them – BS-ers.
I am analytical guy and have to think things before making a decision.
Some time ago I applied for a 5 day intensive course not knowing its price.
I wrote that I had only $300 in hand to invest and asked for an exclusive solution.
Then I was contacted by one of the representatives. He asked about how much money I had in hand. I answered – only $300. Then he told me that with such amount of money I could not start a business and he could not help me.
5 years ago I was doomed by “Rich Jerk” partners who took $4,000 from me for a “niche website” which appeared to be just a few training videos with web hosting.
Every other time I buy a product I am contacted by phone and asked for commitment and how much money I have on credit card.
So I am very careful now to make impulsive decisions.
I am careful also because I have to pay $1,100 each month to my ex-wife as spousal support.
I am married now and my wife and her daughter are suffering from not having enough money for vacations.
I am careful because most of training sessions are in the theoretical area while I need simple down to earth one step-by-step in details method that can give me even as low as $100 a day, but regularly and reliably.
I also prefer to read than to listen.
Anyway I am open to learn …
Thank you for your truth, I like your style.
    Alex.

      Hi Alex,

I feel for you for losing thousands of dollars on what was obviously a load of junk but if you are going to break away from being a marketer BSer you need to accept that money is GONE… and not use it as an excuse from investing in something that WILL help take your business forward in future.

I wasted around $10,000 on a doomed CPA venture a few years ago but that did not prevent me from investing thousands of dollars in further mentoring and coaching.

oh my word. At last someone not afraid to make a few enemys in the pursuit of telling the truth. I have suspected less than one percent of all product purchasers ever act on the advice they are given. Your email confirms the trend. As a product creater in the making it all makes you think why bloody bother if the original content you bleed sweat creating is ever acted on!
99% of the people who will buy my stuff in the future wont get past page ten! Why? Cos they love the moniker of internet marketer but dont want to do the work!
How can you force them to make money!
Im running an offline business. Full time. creating my first product and still earn decent cash marketing on you tube direct linking to CB products. And a twenty month daughter to help raise. Its full on but there is a big bloody great light at the end of the tunnel!

      Hi Stuart,

Nah, I’m not afraid to speak my mind when it comes to success, especially when I am speaking about my own experiences.

My son is 22 months old so I know how hard it is juggling IM with both looking after them but also spending that quality time with them you will never get back.

      Thanks Kevin,

I’m glad I discussed it and judging by the reaction here and my open/click rates, as a piece of marketing material (love it or hate it… that’s what is IS), it got the desired effect.

I’m astonished that you value your “30 Day Marketer” training so little, David.

Sadly for you, you cannot see all the results because some of us are progressing more slowly and haven’t got all the sales funnel ducks lined up yet, but you DID give us a plan.

Don’t short-change yourself, lad! You did a great job with that course. Give yourself a big pat on the back! And if the “high end mentoring” takes a little time to get off the ground, relax. Good things come to those who wait!

      Hi Jennifer,

Quite the opposite – I value my 30 Day Marketer very highly. In terms of a “front end” training, it’s the best I’ve ever produced, no doubt about that. It is going to be a total “no brainer” when it’s launched as a recorded info product in the next couple of weeks.

In terms of the higher end stuff, I should get a steady flow of applicants within the next few weeks when everything is set up but it’s going to be one of those things that won’t have BIG numbers… I only want to work with the best applicants and most of the unsuitable ones do a good job of disqualifying themselves.

I am really excited about where I am taking my own business and also the businesses of my clients – there will be plenty of good things without the need to “wait”…

      David

    Hi David,

I totally agree with Jennifer as a matured professional. I have not applied for your high level training program because your 30 day marketer program is quite valuable and that has changed my view of online marketing. Frankly, I have stopped even looking at any other program and unsubscribed en-masse from everything else. I am working on creating my first, front line product and facing enormous challenges in terms of lining up the ideas into reality.

For me, the investment is not a big issue but to qualify for that, I feel that I must have some real progress with the 30 days marketer program before qualifying myself into the next level of training. Till then, I am putting my head down to come up with a good front end and back end product.
